Welcome to the Egypt Centre’s Frequently Asked Questions section. Here, you’ll find answers to your most common questions about our museum, exhibits, and visiting hours. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What is the admission fee?
The Egypt Centre is completely free for all visitors!

What are the museum’s hours of operation?
Our museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We’re closed on public holidays, including a longer closure over Christmas. Please check our website’s homepage for the most up-to-date opening hours.

How do I get to the museum?
Whether you’re driving, taking public transport, or walking, there are plenty of options to get to the Egypt Centre. For more information, visit our Getting Here page.

Is there parking available?
Parking is available on the Singleton Campus, but spaces are limited. If you’re unable to find a spot, alternative parking options are within walking distance of the university. For visitors with blue badges, accessible parking is provided near the museum. To learn more about parking and transportation options, visit our Getting Here page.

What kind of exhibits do you have?
We have approximately 2,000 objects on display within our galleries. This includes objects such as coffins, statues, stelae, textiles, cosmetic containers, pottery, and mummified animals. We do not display human remains due to ethical reasons.

Do you have any temporary or special exhibitions?
We do. We have a dedicated case in our House of Life gallery, which is devoted to temporary exhibitions. This is usually changed every six months.

Can I take photos or videos inside the museum?
Yes, you’re welcome to take photos or videos for personal use inside the museum. Please avoid using flash. However, commercial photography or filming is strictly prohibited unless prior arrangements are made with the Egypt Centre staff. Kindly be mindful of other visitors while taking photos. Please do not photograph staff, volunteers, or children without explicit consent.

Are there guided tours available?
If available, our volunteers are on hand to facilitate guided tours around the galleries. If you are a group and want an organised guided tour, please contact the museum at egyptcentre@swansea.ac.uk.

Is there a cafe or restaurant on-site?
There is no cafe or restaurant in the Egypt Centre, but there are plenty of options around the Singleton campus grounds. Do note that options are more limited at weekends. For more details, see here.

Are there facilities for people with disabilities?
Yes. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor of the Taliesin building, where the Egypt Centre is located. For more details, see our Accessible Toilets page.

Can I leave my belongings in a locker or coat check?
Unfortunately, we don’t have lockers or a cloakroom at the Egypt Centre. On particularly wet days, we’re happy to take coats and umbrellas and put them on a small rack, but these are left at your own risk.

Is there a gift shop?
We have an excellent gift shop on the ground floor of the Egypt Centre. This is the perfect place to pick up a souvenir to remember your visit to the museum. For more details, see our Gift Shop page.

Are there activities or programmes for children?
We’ve got loads of fun activities for kids all over the museum! You can try your hand at mummification, play the ancient Egyptian game of senet, or even handle real artefacts! We’re also a super playful museum, with lots of fun stuff scattered around for you to discover. Check out our Playful Museum page for more details.

Are there changing facilities for babies and toddlers?
There are two changing facilities for babies and toddlers in the Taliesin building. For more details, see our Facilities page.

Can I volunteer at the Egypt Centre?
Yes. If you are over 10, you can volunteer at the Egypt Centre. Please see our Volunteering page, which should contain all the information you need!

Can I schedule a private tour for my group?
You can, although you’ll have to contact the museum to arrange this in advance. Our team will then be able to understand your needs and accommodate you as best we can. Please email egyptcentre@swansea.ac.uk.
